We at Zada are getting asked more and more about broadband and WAN options for CCTV systems particularly for remote monitoring. We can now offer a true CCTV compatible broadband installation that will maximise your IP and CCTV investment.

Why does it matter?

Just as the advert shows a frustrated estate agent trying to get on line from a broadband connection at 6 in the evening, so will many remotely monitored CCTV systems. When it comes to security this is a serious issue.

Bandwidth

The low cost consumer broadband products are generally contended which means that important link speed is being compromised by others sharing the bandwidth. Most broadband providers will promote speeds of up to 20Mb which is fine for downloading music files, however for CCTV remote monitoring applications its not the download speed that is important it is the speed at which the pictures can be sent or uplinked. These uplink speeds can be as low as 128kb and are even more problematical as when they are contended, uplink speeds will drop right down and the net result is a loss of CCTV quality, resolution and frame rate.

Routers

Even the broadband routers are critical in CCTV applications. Not only are the uplink bandwidths important but also the packet handling. Dropped packets can mean regular loss of complete images so what could be 25 IPS can suddenly become 5 IPS. Many broadband routers are tuned to provide home internet services not to deliver the demanding uplink of CCTV.
